Most infrared-cabin problems come down to power, a loose connector, or an expectation mismatch. Here's a calm, safe checklist for a cabin that won't heat, trips the breaker, or feels weaker than you expected.

Most infrared-cabin problems trace back to one of three things: power (a tripped breaker, a not-fully-seated plug, or a shared circuit that's overloaded), a loose internal connector between the control unit and a panel, or an expectation mismatch (infrared heats you, not the air, so a low air-temperature reading is often normal). Work through them in that order before assuming the cabin is broken. Below is a calm, safe checklist. The golden rule: anything behind a panel or involving hardwiring is a job for the manufacturer's support line or a licensed electrician — never open up a heater circuit yourself.

Cabin won't turn on at all

A completely dead cabin — no control panel, no lights — is almost always a power problem, which is good news because it's the easiest to fix. Check, in order: is the cabin plugged fully into the outlet (and is the plug's own switch, if it has one, on)? Has the breaker for that circuit tripped — go look at the panel and reset it if so? Is the outlet itself live — test it with a phone charger or lamp? Many infrared cabins want their own dedicated outlet and can trip a breaker if they share a circuit with a microwave, heater or hair dryer, which is part of why we cover whether infrared saunas need special wiring. If the outlet is dead and other things on that circuit are too, it's a breaker or wiring issue for an electrician, not the sauna.

It powers on but the panels aren't heating

If the control panel lights up but you're not feeling heat, first rule out the obvious: has the cabin actually been set to run, with a temperature above the current reading and any timer started? Give it the real warm-up window — infrared cabins take a while, as we explain in how long an infrared sauna takes to heat up — and hold your hand near a panel to check whether some are warming and others aren't. If one specific panel is cold while the rest work, that points to a loose connector or a failed panel, which is a support-line diagnosis and often a warranty part. If nothing warms despite power and a correct setting, contact the manufacturer with your model and serial number rather than guessing.

It keeps tripping the breaker

A cabin that runs for a few minutes then trips the breaker is telling you the circuit can't supply what it's drawing. The usual cause is a shared or undersized circuit: move the cabin to its own dedicated outlet, or stop running other appliances on the same circuit. If it trips a dedicated circuit rated for the cabin, that's a fault — stop using it and call the maker or an electrician, because repeated tripping is a safety cut-out doing its job, not a nuisance to work around. Never "solve" a tripping breaker by moving to a higher-rated one; that removes the protection the breaker exists to provide.

The control panel is dark or unresponsive

A blank or frozen controller with the cabin otherwise powered is often a connection or reset issue. Power the cabin fully off at the outlet, wait a minute, and power it back on — the same try-turning-it-off-and-on-again that fixes so much electronics. If the controller is a removable wired remote, check its cable is seated at both ends. If it stays dark, that's a support-line call. Resist the urge to open the control housing yourself.

It heats, but feels weaker than you expected

This one is frequently not a fault at all but a misread of how infrared works. Infrared warms your body directly, so the air temperature stays much lower than in a traditional sauna — a thermometer reading of 130°F is normal and doesn't mean the cabin is underperforming. Sit long enough for the infrared to build; give it the full pre-heat; and make sure you're actually in the beam rather than tucked in a corner. When to stop and call for help

Some symptoms are a hard stop: any burning smell that doesn't clear after the first couple of break-in sessions, scorched or discolored wiring, sparking, a breaker that trips on a correct dedicated circuit, or anything involving the heater's wiring. Turn the cabin off, unplug it, and contact the manufacturer — and if it's a wiring or circuit fault, a licensed electrician. Have your model and serial number ready; most cabins carry a solid warranty on panels and controls, and support can usually diagnose from your description.

The bottom line

Before you conclude an infrared sauna is broken, check power, check for a loose connector, and check that you're not just expecting traditional-sauna air temperatures from an infrared cabin.
