Sauna Before or After a Workout?
After training is the sensible default; before heavy lifting usually isn't. The one rule that matters more than the timing is hydration — never sauna dehydrated.

For most people the answer is afterthe workout, not before. A post-workout sauna is a popular, pleasant way to relax and to feel recovered, and it fits neatly after you've done the hard work. Sauna before a workout: usually not ideal
Using a full sauna session right before you train — especially before strength or heavy conditioning work — is generally a bad trade. Two things work against you. First, fatigue: heat is a stressor that raises your heart rate and leaves many people feeling relaxed and a little drained, which is the opposite of the primed, alert state you want for a heavy lift or a hard interval. Second, fluid loss: you sweat significantly in a sauna, so starting a workout straight afterward means starting it already down on fluids, which hurts performance and raises the risk of cramping and lightheadedness. For most training goals, sauna-then-lift makes the workout worse, not better.
The one narrow exception is a gentle warm-upcase: a short, mild spell of heat can loosen stiff muscles and raise body temperature before very light activity or mobility work. But even then it's a brief, low-intensity warm-up — not a full sweat — and you still have to replace the fluids before you start. If your session is anything strenuous, the sauna belongs after it.
It also depends on cardio vs strength
The type of training shifts the calculus a little. After heavy strength work, the main reason to pause before the sauna is simply recovery and heart rate — lift, cool down, rehydrate, then enjoy the heat. The rule is simple: drink water before, and rehydrate fully afterward to replace what you lost. Who should be cautious
Combining heat and hard exercise raises your heart rate and drops your fluid volume more than either does alone, so some people should be careful or check with a doctor first: anyone with a heart or blood-pressure condition, pregnant women, older adults, and anyone new to either the heat or the training. If you fall into one of those groups, keep sessions cooler and shorter, lean toward a sauna well after the workout once you've recovered and rehydrated, and stop immediately if you feel dizzy, nauseated, lightheaded or unwell.
